At the Taleo Book Club, we’re always researching new titles from both leading authors and relative unknowns to offer a fresh perspective on the way you think about talent in your organization. Innovative talent management takes more than picking up a “managers guide to…” and following the one size fits all, step-by-step instructions. Truly innovative talent managers are taking the best ideas from top marketers, brand managers and social networkers to customize the experience for their organization. We’re discovering many great books and some really amazing thinking.
One of those titles is “Tribes” by Seth Godin. The book is all about groups of people, large or small, who are connected to one another, a leader, and an idea. The book describes the way all of us can lead when we are passionate about something. It also illuminates the fact that the most effective tribes (meaning members get the most out of being in it) are the ones who are tight – they communicate, they understand each other, and they engage with the tribe – helping each other move towards a common goal.
We are passionate about the Taleo Book Club, and we want to tighten our tribe, understand each other better and make sure we are leading the group in a direction that satisfies each person’s reason for membership. We’ve asked many of you why you want to be in the book club, and the overwhelming majority are here to SHARE ideas, and learn thought leading strategies when it comes to talent management. Sure, some of you admitted you’re just here for the free books, and that’s OK, but wouldn’t it be even better if you could get something more out of it?
We’d like to take this opportunity to get to know you better. What you do every day, what you’re challenges are, what you want to learn. Our plan is to collect, dissect and divulge a summary of the findings with the book club. You’ll understand who is here with you – what they desire to learn and how they can help you.
